Overview of Individual Work
"You can only work on yourself. Start there." - Alice O. Howell
Beyond IntellectWe humans spend far too much time in our heads, trying to figure everything out. We seek reasons that could explain the causes and effects behind the circumstances of our lives--why this or that event happened; how we could have acted differently to alter the outcome of a situation; or what might happen if we were to take one course of action instead of another.
When it comes to our own lives, each of us is a gifted artist and a master storyteller. When we feel happy, it is easy for us to find evidence that we have done something to deserve it. But when things do not go the way we want, we easily make justifications for our self-sabotage, or mask feelings of disappointment by placing blame on others. Left unchecked, this tendency to see the world through terms that favor our personal comfort can become a powerful agent of stasis, even of self-destruction. Yet, as powerful a tool as it is, the intellectual mind alone cannot contain our entire existence within its language of rationality.
We think but we also feel on many levels, and our feeling capacities must be honed alongside the mind, or they quickly become dull from neglect. Emotions describe our interior landscapes. Psyche reflects our spiritual essence and how we commune with that which is greater than ourselves. These are subtle but equally powerful aspects of our selves, and we are diminished when they are ignored.
Together, mind, emotion, and psyche shape our sense of everything in life from health, wealth, belonging, accomplishment, and relations to others--but only through the instrument of the physical body. The body provides a useful map of our whole being at any given moment, and Zenshin Method (ZM) begins here to develop awareness of the body's distinct way of communicating its relationship with mind, emotion, and psyche. The first steps come from recognizing the messages contained in one's actual "body language".
Generally speaking, ZM works on Three Levels and employs multiple personalized Techniques tailored to meet the needs, capabilities, and readiness of each individual. These levels are NOT linear progressions but interconnected aspects of our existence. Thus, ZM work will both connect and move between levels as is appropriate for each situation.
Three Levels
The Body-Physical level brings individual attention to the mechanics and functionality of the physical self. This is the foundation that will support more effective connections to the other levels. Personal injuries, surgeries, accidents, chronic pain, sleep patterns, digestion, nutrition, diseases, family health history, medication, etc. will be discussed and assessed to identify where and how an individual holds patterns, tension and pain. Learn to increase energy, circulation, and balance, while release toxins, tension, and inflammation from the body.*
The Body-Mind-Emotion level cultivates subtle inner awareness toward decoding and shifting detrimental personal patterns. It takes the mind and heart through a deeper journey toward calmness, openness, and balance. Emphasis is placed on developing a connection to stories told from the body and learning to "translate" them. Experience and release emotions and thoughts that are stored throughout the various parts of the body.
The Body-Psyche level opens the realm of Self exploration and personal spiritual connection. ZM is not affiliated with, nor does it promote any particular religious view; however, wisdom gained from many different traditions may be references, as appropriate. Guided inquiries, meditation, writing, and discussions create no-nonsense, straightforward perspectives on one's life and situation, empowering individuals to live fearlessly as who they are.
